Maybelline superstay lip color has been aound for a while, but has recently been featured in their TV adverts, with the model wearing a gorgeous hollywood red shade.
This caught my eye, because as much as I love red lipstick, I find it quite high-maintainence for the average day, when I just don't have time to keep on top of smudges or fading, so up to 24 hour wear seemed like an promising idea. I bought the red shade featured in the advert, 510 red passion:
The idea is similar to the many other long-lasting lip products available: one side is the colour which is applied to clean bare lips and then left to dry, before topping up with the balm for moisture and shine whenever needed.
The packaging for this is double ended, meaning that you don't lose either the colour or the balm in the bottom of your handbag, which makes it functional and inoffensive.
So does it last? I applied 2 coats at 11.30 yesterday morning (one coat was patchy, I found 2 are needed to make the colour truly opaque) and it was still in place at 9.45 in the evening, despite much talking, lip nibbling and the consumption of a coffee, 2 sandwiches, a cupcake, half a bag of jelly babies and beans on toast. There was some patchiness in the centre of my lips, and a little in the outer corners, but overall the colour held impressively well without fading, and much longer than any other red lippie I own. It doesn't smudge once on, meaning it wont get accidentally smeared over your own face or that of anyone you happen to kiss while wearing it, something my OH is infinitely grateful for!
The colour is a fabulous true red without shimmers, and can be left matte without the balm or used with it for a softer, shinier finish. Long-lasting lipsticks are notorious for being very drying on the lips, but I found this to be fine, a very slight tingly sensation on first application but nothing uncomfortable.
For me, there are a couple of things that are not quite perfect though. As mentioned above, it requires at least 2 coats of this shade to get an even and opaque finish, which I don't really mind, but the accompanying balm seems to be dissapearing much more rapidly that the colour side. The doefoot applicator in the colour side is an awkard shape which makes it difficult for me to get a really precise lipline.
Overall though, I'm really impressed and would certainly repurchase, giving it a 7.5/10.
Note: This is just my own personal opinion and I purchased the product with my own money.

My first post......
For the past couple of years, I've been an avid blog reader....anything from beauty to cookery to craft to vintage style, I'll happily while away the hours delving deep into the archives of blogs I find interesting or funny. For ages, i've been thinking about blogging myself, coming across new finds or tips and thinking; "Ooh, now that would make a great blog post!" So here it is...
This will probably only ever be of interest to myself, but you know what? That's ok by me!
